Join Jewellery Designer and Maker Myfanwy Jones to learn how to make your own unique ring in wax, to be cast in Silver using the ancient technique of lost wax casting.
Time: 10 am - 1 pm
Location: Siop Iard Caernarfon (First Floor)
You will be given guidance through using different techniques in order to work intuitively with the tools provided. The process begins with a larger piece of wax than required, which you will file, carve, texture, smooth, imprint and shape into a new creation of your desire!
This class is suitable for beginners or others who may already have jewellery experience but want to expand their wax carving skills.
Feel free to come prepared with ideas, or if unsure on the day - there will be plenty of examples to help you visualise what your ring could look like by the end of the session. If you have any found objects with interesting textures that you would like to experiment with, please bring them along!
The cost of the ticket includes a 5mm width wax which will be sized to a finger of your choosing on the day. (To make a larger design of ring, 10mm width waxes will be available at an additional charge, payable on the day).
After the class your wax model will be cast in recycled silver, hand-polished by Myfanwy and given back to you as a finished ring. If you totally fall in love with your creation, the option to upgrade to have your wax ring cast in solid 9ct/18ct Gold can be made - Myfanwy will weigh your wax and quote you the cost based on current precious metal prices.
Please allow a minimum of 3 weeks for the ring to be ready for collection at Siop Iard or you can arrange for it to be posted out to you.
Any additional services such as gold plating or stone setting that are offered during the class, will incur additional charges and add on extra time for delivery of your new ring!
Safety notes: You must be aged 18 and over to attend. Open toed shoes are not permitted with use of the tools. Hair must be tied back, and loose long-sleeved tops are not advised due to small flames being present during the class.
*All materials and tools are provided on the day, but if you need to bring magnifiers to see detail up close, you are welcome to do so.
